From frozen material to dry cake
Lyophilization, or freeze-drying, removes water at low temperature and reduced pressure. The material is frozen, primary drying removes ice through sublimation, and secondary drying reduces remaining bound moisture.
Why the process is useful
Many peptides are less stable in aqueous solution than in a dry state. Removing water can slow hydrolysis and other degradation pathways, making properly packaged material more practical to transport and store.
Appearance is only one observation
A lyophilized cake may vary in shape or texture because of formulation and process conditions. Visual appearance alone cannot establish identity, quantity or purity; those questions require appropriate documentation and analytical testing.
